Here we will attempt to answer the most basic of queries! (Thank you to Susan for writing this up for us!) What is a co-op or buying club? -A cooperative buying club consists of a group of people pooling their financial resources in order to purchase bulk items at discounted (sometimes wholesale) prices. It is very important to keep our discounts and group buy information to yourselves and other members of the group. We could very easily lose the ability to work with wholesalers and retailers if news of our discounts gets around. Who hosts the buys? -An administrator or moderator. What kind of discounts will we get? -Discounts on items will vary depending on the wholesaler/retailer, product, and quantity purchased. Are there fees? -Most buys will have a small fee to help the host defer costs and is not there for profit. There is time, effort, and incidentals that go into running a buy and the fee is kept to a bare minimum. There can be shipping fees from the retailer/wholesaler to the moderator and those are split equally amongst the buy participants. Most fees are paid up-front along with the amount owed for actual product ordered. Oftentimes shipping costs are unknown until the items are sent out and in those instances participants will pay their share after the products arrive. Costs of buys are always split evenly among participants and we try to plan/prepare for these as best as we can. What forms of payment are accepted? -This is up to the host, but usually paypal, check or cash. If the host accepts credit card payments through paypal the fees must be calculated and paid for buy the purchaser/participant. Can I have my items shipped? -This is up to the host, but normally no. We are a local only group so the participants can pick up their items from the host and the headache of shipping is avoided. Communication is key for a successful buying group. We will let you know everything we can as soon as we can. Most buys will go smoothly with everything arriving on time and in perfect condition. There will be times that the unexpected will occur and items delayed or damaged. We deal with reputable wholesalers/retailers so these issues don't arise often. Issues are handled as quickly and as professionally as possible. |
